KINGSBURG—Valley residents are invited to a harvest season celebration as “The Great Pumpkin Arrives” in Kingsburg, Saturday, Oct. 1.
Kingsburg District Chamber of Commerce has once again gained the financial backing of Selma Flea Market to offer $1,000 to find the biggest pumpkin as part of the Swedish Village Farmer’s Market fall activity scheduled “Great Pumpkin Arrives”, that day.
The pumpkin growing season according to those who pursue competitive growing takes approximately 120 days to complete. In order to meet the Oct. 1 deadline, the planting should take place quickly. Last year’s winner weighed in at over 450 pounds.
Selma Flea Market is also sponsoring the Fourth Annual Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest that evening at the farmer’s market in downtown Kingsburg. It will have a $100 prize. Entry forms are available in downloadable fashion on the Chamber web page: www.kingsburgchamberofcommerce.com or for additional information, call the Kingsburg Chamber at (559) 897-1111.
Farmer’s Market vendors will be in their regular positions offering barbecued foods, kettle corn, fruits and vegetables. A “Trunk Full of Treasures” day will be offered as anyone presenting evidence of personal liability insurance and a resale number from the California State Board of Equalization can bring saleable items which would normally sell at a garage sale and sell from the trunk of their vehicles.
Adventist Health will sponsor an appearance of the popular jazz band ZZAH at 6 p.m. that evening.
