Fresno City College faculty and staff will bring to life some unknown and unpublished works by famed writer William Saroyan on Saturday, September 27 in the FCC Art Space Gallery. The Gallery will be open 1 – 4 p.m. A reading of selected Saroyan’s work will begin at 2 p.m. A reception will follow. The event is open to the public and attendance is free.
The reading will bring to a close “Lines, Lines, Lines,” a special exhibit of art created by Saroyan and personal items once owned by the writer. The exhibit is part of the city’s year-long centennial celebration of Saroyan’s birth.
The works, part of a special Saroyan collection from the Stanford University Library Archives, consist of several published articles including How to Be a Writer and How to Write a Great Play. Plays, that organizers of the event believe have never been published, include Ah, Blooming Universe and Across the Board. Scheduled to perform are Gurdeep Sihota, Ernie Garcia, C. Tim Quinn, Chris Boltz, Paul Gilmore, David Hamp and reading organizers Chuck Erven and Debbi Shapazian.
“Lines, Lines, Lines” has been a whimsical look at Saroyan’s drawings and writings. It has featured the Pulitzer Prize winning writer's written lines, spoken lines and drawn lines.
